Scion A/V Presents: Moodymann – Picture This EP

Initially we had picked out ‘U Ranaway,’ ‘Pray 4 Love,’ ‘Hold It Down’ and ‘Got 2 Make It’ for a tight lil’ download selection … However due to the powers that be, we’ll have to stress the point to purchase this EP pleasure instead – amongst the fabulous portal of ScionAV.com.

Amid an instant and religious, night time & dominating factor-feel (with a new fan of Moodymann being created over here …), ‘9 Nites 2 Nowhere’ takes you through a proggy electronic journey for just over eight minutes and is intermixed with bumpy rides, a beautiful brass instrument being blown around, and some frisky hi hat drums being played along a seabed of dynamic rivers.

‘Basement Party’ flexes it muscles with a lot of grittiness and chunk, while the fame-four from earlier are the crowning jewels of the EP. There are plenty of piano moments and plenty of off kilter jazz peppers with simlifyed early night funk too.

Detroit’s Moodymann keeps on making it extremely elegant and ravishingly funky.

Hello Phones – Get It Together

Hello Phones have dropped some inspiration in their first album entitled, “Get It Together”.  They embody the stank of a run down metropolitan drenched in the despair, dreams, terror and innovation that once fueled the city. Together, they have managed to capture the sound of the late 70s/early 80s New York of legend without sounding like derivative re-treads.

It is the energy of those days that oozes out of every track on their debut album Get It Together. It’s dirty and gritty and jams the Fuck out. It is the perfect counterweight to the “chasing Pet Sounds” feel of 90% of the bands defining New York today. – syffal.com

BEN BROWNING – Lover Motion EP [Cutter Records]

Bassist for Australia’s super-slick band known as Cut Copy, Ben Browning has landed in due haste alongside the underlying anticipation of C.C.’s follow up to “Zonoscope” and his own prior solo release called ‘I Can’t Stay’ back in February 2012.

Lavishly putting out an EP which staggers the opulence and extravagance that homed the sound & feel for those downtempo moments that Daft Punk are so proud and renowned for, Ben Browning unbelievable sets the cat amongst the pigeons in an unblemished demonstration summed up by ‘Feels Like.’

‘Night Dunes’ and especially ‘Bullet Island’ flaunt the gorgeous ways Browning has relied the power of the synth and the openness in which instrumentals can be used strongly without wrongly placed lead vocals overlapping on top.

‘Mistaken Images’ slips through a partial folk portal that remains impervious but tremendous – with ‘I Can’t Stay’ leading from the front and accompanied by two kicker mixes from Melbourne’s Knightlife and New York City’s Juan MacLean bringing in the low BPM zesty house.

Relying on Gus Franklin & Haima Marriott (from Architecture in Helsinki) to add that extra pizzazz and final twinkle-down passion to Ben’s “Lover Motion EP”, Franklin & Lachlan Dickie quickly come in to provide the live drums alongside Cut Copys’ Dan Whitford to compose those astonishing chords and cherubic programming that we hear.

Available now through iTunes and all other digital outlets, that ol’ smell-tastic rounded disc known as 12” vinyl is also accessible as a final Ben Browning physical product.

To celebrate this exceptional EP release, Ben Browning is touring around the States with Architecture in Helsinki’s Gus Franklin (on drums) to perform a unique number of select American dates.

WILDCAT! WILDCAT! – Mr. Quiche {VIDEO}

Wildcat! Wildcat! have just dropped us their music video for their awesome ‘Mr. Quiche’ melody, so here it is in its full entirety.

Containing the talents of Tyler Rumph as the Video Director, Taylor Woods handling the AC, Costume / Makeup Design from Chelsea Taylor and the breakdancing being done by Kian Khiaban, here is yet another music video which adds unique credibility to an already significant and uplifting tune.

JECHT RYE – Bloom

As an avid creator and audio programmer through the opportune brooks of Adobe Audition, Cubase and Reason, Matt Jones (aka Jecht Rye) falls back onto his learnings of the piano to create a plethora of material that is highly interesting to listen to – as well as to get wholly lost in also.

‘Bloom,’ as one of his self-produced examples is airy, atmospheric and gushes like a long open air stream, running well into a crisp waterfall soon looming.

‘Birdcry’ featuring Chris Calvert, unravels the mind via an around the Earth Pluto-orbit of dream states, and ‘Kiara’ concludes with a play-by-play classical & downtempo brilliance; – targeted by optimal drum-arranged soul.

Having a production partner to collaborate alongside with is always handy for more inspiring ideas, so with his nearest and dearest studio buddy named Chris Calvert on board.. any other instrument which is not heard as the guitar, then Calvart is your man responsible. Let’s listen together.

WILDCAT! WILDCAT! – End Of The World Everyday

The New Division

Here’s a great track sent to us by Lindsay Colip. For those that do not know, The New Division is spearheaded by John Kunkel (vox/producer) and amplified by Micheal ‘Janzie’ Janz (sequencing/synths), Mark Michalski (synths) and Brock Woolsey (guitar). Influenced by Joy Division, New Order and Depeche Mode, they have taken the tastiest slices of these bands and infused some new life into them. Not stuck under the weight and spell of the greats that came before them, but perfectly inspired, these guys have done what most bands can’t do. They’ve remained faithful to their influence without being a copycat. Their sound feels comfortably connected to the past but with a momentum that fastens them to the future. The core stays true to electronic dance music while supporting thick branches of 80’s synth, italo disco and brooding chill wave. Kunkel adds tugging lyrics to the tracks, bringing satisfying emotion to the party.

Kunkel and his mates are constantly writing music. On any given day, they’ll have multiple
songs going at once, expanding and editing whenever it feels right. In early 2011, they felt they had 6 songs right and put out the highly acclaimed EP, The Rookie. It wasn’t long after that they felt they had enough material for a full length, and in late 2011, they released Shadows. This album is generating a huge buzz. As more people put their ears to it, Shadows continues to climb up charts all across the US as well as internationally. Several music publications named the LP a top album of 2011 and as the new year unfolds, the masses are catching on.

The New Division are embracing today’s musical landscape by being multifaceted.
Understanding the relevance of collaboration, they continue to drop remixes of their favorite artist’s tracks and in return, encourage others to remix their own music. They have also started a label, Division 87 Records, which scouts both in the States as well as overseas for new talent. Several members also have side projects going (Gala, John Glenn). If you’re lucky enough to be in the Los Angeles area, you can hear the guys live before they inevitably head across the pond to appease their international fans.

No plans of slowing down, they are striking while the iron is hot. A new EP is due out in late Spring, more live shows are being announced and a festival in their future looks probable.
If they continue at this pace, which seems likely based on the amount of started songs on
Kunkel’s computer, it will be a very ear pleasing year. They’ve also decided to take a more
collaborative songwriting approach on this new EP, which will only enhance and deepen their already solid sound. In sum, The New Division will make you want to get into your car on a dark, rainy night and take a drive though a glittering downtown. Into your soul they will instill a deep longing for the introspective 80’s, when emotions were pinned to your jacket and one glance from the girl gutted you. And above all, they will encourage you to honor your inner demons and in the same breath, remind you to roll down your window so you can blow them out with one long exhale.

World Tour – Believe

Undoubtedly one of Cascine’s most anticipated releases of 2012 is the ‘Believe’ EP by World Tour – a bold, thoughtful and imaginative contribution to pop music.

Last year’s introduction to World Tour – the dreamy breakout single, ‘Sparks’ – drove more traffic to the label’s website than any release to date.

Believe is a glistening pop gem with a stately and slowly-evolving melody. Spend some time with it, and it blossoms into something beautiful and three-dimensional, something that asks for little but offers a lot.

Osbourne & Anderson – Noho

We would like to welcome Louis Osbourne & Jamie Anderson to Jackmode, both as solo artists and with their common project Osbourne & Anderson. The two guys have quite a history in dance music, both as djs and producers, having an impressive amount of releases in the past 10 years. Between them, they have over 40 years DJ experience.

Their entertainment backgrounds immediately put them on the same wavelength, (Jamie’s Mum was in Return of the Jedi, and Louis’ Dad has dabbled in rock music), and merged as Osbourne & Anderson – a ground breaking production team with an outstanding live DJ performance.

Their latest work Noho (including remixes by Axel Boman and Rafael kakudo) is out on Play It Down today.

JONATHAN MEYER – Many Things EP [Madhouse Records]

Dangerously built for the night time from beginning to end, ‘Welcome Mr Fuzz’ & ‘Toms Over’ from Jonathan Meyer’s six track EP on Madhouse contains one half of pleasing highlights for majorly tight saxophone and pro-jazz excitement, and for the other half; calls in the master for all things vintage, classic and house.

Mr Kerri Chandler steps up to the plate remixing Jonathan’s ‘Toms Over’ and uses his dexterity to create a heavy kick drum led build with 2119 futuristic pads and 2120 cherry-chord patterns. Brought together with clear epic brightness, it’s as if it was created within the Almighty’s confine of enormous creativity itself.

A simple effective beat, which powers an enjoyable tense groove.

TONY LIONNI – Bijou EP [Madhouse Records]

Returning back to Madhouse Records in a pertinent two way spilt for both Tony Lionni and Aerialnoise.com, Tony Lionni conveys a beautiful dream state of spacey, atmospheric settings for this entire four track EP called “Bijou.” Out now through Traxsource and all the various download portals online, “Bijou EP” is worth the prestigious investment in hunting down collectively.

Enriched with a deep rooted soul and an underlying funky groove, ‘Hypnotize’ as one mere example makes your heart bounce gently and proceeds in nodding your head in a lovely, continued immortal state – in which you really don’t want to hear end.

‘Rumours’ brings out the phasers and the glossy undertones of the chord-heaven Rhodes, so while hugging your bass bins in excitement whilst this track is airing may not be a good look, getting up and off onto your feet to dance would probably be a better option instead.

Heaps of imagination are to be had from all four of these well formed Lionni pearls and will do well in fuelling the many telltale moments of 7am clubland finishes throughout the realms of the longevity.

STEVE MILL – You Really Know EP [Madhouse Records]

The luscious enhancement and appetizing accentuation of a production seem to illuminate more brightly when it’s being played at certain times of night; as well as during various points of the day too.

Ol’ Stevey-boy-Mill is most certainly all-man, and gliding along like a couple of nicely dressed skating duo’s on a sea bed of frozen ice, are three natural flavours to get all sorts of dessert flavoured fans and their dancing spoons & mouths watering.

‘Gliders’ and ‘The Streets’ have a typical back room & “setting the pace” fashion to them, but a noteworthy hallmark notice has to be put on call for the title track of the same name, ‘You Really Know.’

Carefully structured with floating, swinging keys and a haunting looped vocal sprinkled over the top – in parts; ‘You Really Know’ steps up to the table as a hip swaying, it’s time to get our feet to the dance floor number – for many, many creative months to come. Beautifully made, Steve Mill’s most recent EP does the epic respectful trick on full housey-tilt.

Dorsh – Je t’aime

The track was inspired by Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin’s 1969 single, “Je t’aime (moi non plus)”. Born in America to parents with Jamaican and English roots, “Jaminglican” Artist / Producer, Dorsh has compiled all of his early influences to create a wonderfully delicious mixture of flavors, rightfully entitled “Neopolitan”.

“Je t’aime” is the first single from the Neopolitan project which is slated to be released on Tuesday May 1, 2012. Look out for a video teaser this Feb 17.2012, and an “official video” release on February 28th. For now, fulljoy the free download and this wonderful day!
