Toronto-based Parallels are back releasing music again with their newest single, Find The Fire.  Holly Dodson (Vocals) and Cameron Findlay (Drums and Production) are extremely innovative when it comes to creating dark synthesized electro beats.  Their new single is a bit lighter than some of their previous releases but it’s still spectacular.  Dodson’s vocals are beautiful.  She sounds reminiscent of an 80s pop scene, so innocent and pure.  Together they put a signature stamp on all of their tracks, and all of them are one of a kind.

laidback luke

Over the past week I came across some new inviting house remixes by Laidback Luke.  Both are fixated on heavy synth sequences and layers of loops.  Luke has an elaborate playful way of mixing up the original samples and spinning them to his desire.  He takes both these tracks for a walk, especially the earlier touch-up to MSTRKRFT/Jon Legend’s Heartbreaker.  Included also is the classic remix to MJ’s Thriller.  Halloween’s is around the corner so it’s an excellent grab.

2009 has been an impressive year so far for the Netherlands producer.  The collaboration with the Swedish House Mafia on Leave The World Behind was Beatports best-selling song of the year as of July 09.  He’s also been on tour all year- from Australia to Ibiza so far with upcoming shows in Europe, Russia and Singapore. If you are in one of these areas it would be worth the investment to check the show.  Dates can be found on his myspace.

The Juan MacLean [History + Highlights]

whangmaclean

Juan Maclean, frontman to his contemporary self titled project was initially part of the dance-punk group Six Finger Satellite that emerged in 1990.  The Providence, Rhode Island band captured a significant following and are still recognized today for their prophetic fusion of electronic and post-punk music.  It disbanded in 2001 after lasting 11 years.  During their run, James Murphy, an impressive and established sound engineer signed onto the project to assist SFS in sound management while on tour.  This was the beginning of an epic relationship.

When the project broke up, MacLean focused on a degree at Providence College, and Murphy moved to NY in an attempt to further himself in the music industry. It wasn’t long before Murphy realized his calling card creating DFA Records with co-founder Tim Goldsworthy in early 2001 (Originally, the record label was Death From Above Records but was altered in the wake of Sept 11).  In 2002, Murphy became known for his most successful musical endeavour by providing the vocals for his new project LCD Soundsystem. After some time Juan MacLean was urged back into the business by James Murphy.  MacLean started experimenting with modern electronic mixing equipment and within four years released his debut album, Less Than Human.  It is a fantastic first album.  The track Give Me Every Little Thing can still be found echoing in my speakers.

In MacLean’s resurgence he became associated with much of the crowd Murphy was hanging around.  Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem and Juan MacLean still occasionally produce music today.  The track Dance With Me is one of their signature tracks together.  I don’t have an electronic copy to share but if you have the ability find it, its worth the hunt.  It’s interesting how a family of friends reunited to establish a small music empire.  Sometimes things just work out and when tracks like this emerge everyone benefits.

Classixx [Drop The Lime & Ladyhawke Remixes]

Classixx crew Michael David and Tyler Blake are at it again.  The recent remix to Drop The Lime’s Devil’s Eyes has a real unique pop to it.  The track is complete with smooth vocals and a typical Classixx heavy-synth combo that does wonders.  The duo have a couple Halloween gigs coming up in San Fran and L.A. before they’re off on a mini European tour.  Catch them if you have the chance.  Hit myspace for tour dates.

I also included a disgustingly good remix to Ladyhawke’s Magic from a few weeks ago.   If you don’t have it, grab it.  It’s a great treat for libraries everywhere.

The video above is directed by Mark Hunter and was released on May 11, 2009 via Kitisune.

Meterhead

Meterhead released an Official Remix EP package that contains three powerful tracks featuring great stuff from the Black Lips, Acid Girls, and Wale.  This is the first release in awhile for LA-based Meterhead.  He’s been keeping pretty busy by working on a number of various side projects, some we may even hear of in the coming months.  Keep an eye out for this man.  One would hope that these recent releases represent his new awakening into the culture and keep him from returning to the dormant lifestyle he was living.

♫ MP3: Wale feat. Lady Gaga – Chillin’ (METERHEAD Remix)

Madrid based Nelue has been very busy. He currently has a track on Eskimo’s Cosmic Balearic Beats Collection, which features 16 unreleased tracks ranging from cosmic house to funk. It’s one great pickup. These two re-works of classic Genesis and Floyd show the range and talent Nelue has. Both tracks are funky editions to a couple of established stellar masterpieces.

Nelue is represented by the label Disciple of Groove.

Earthquake [Treasure Fingers' Epicwave Remix]

Little Boots has certainly established herself in the business.  After leaving her old project Dead Disco in 2007, Victoria Christina Hesketh focused on a solo career in pop music.  In early 2008 she acquired her alias as Little Boots from a close friend after watching the film Caligula (‘Little Boot’ in Latin), and  in reference to her small feet .  Soon after, she united with Greg Kurstin to start production on her debut album and things really took off.  The 2008 debut album Hands did extremely well, but most of her fame came after the 2009 release of Illuminations, an EP that contained the hits Stuck On Repeat and New In Town.

The remix to Earthquake by the Treasure Fingers is a mean compliment to some ferocious vocals.  The track holds some devastating disco sequences.  Combine them with the catchy, rhythmic handclaps and you have yourself one great party banger.

Earthquake is available November 16, 2009 on 679/Atlantic.

Marina & The Diamonds – Mowgli’s Road [REMIXES]

Marina & The Diamonds released their official video to Mowgli’s Road (dir. by Chris Sweeney) last Tuesday October 20, 2009.  With it Marina managed to hit a  new weird hybrid of strange and sexy.  Right after the video dropped, Russ Chimes and Mille both released their own fantastic versions on the 21st. Both of these tracks come courtesy of Neon Gold Records, a dope label that has some great talent under them.  Marina is now moving on to Atlantic and the next step, therefore these last two remixes are her acting sendoff in a strange kind of way.  The new Mille remix is regarded as Marina’s  personal favorite, while Russ Chimes just throws down like his usual self.  A sure party classic for those that like the music loud and the floor moving.

Mowgli’s Road by Marina & The Diamonds is released officially on November 16, 2009.
